Magellan restarts lead mine after three years
Magellan Metals has resumed processing operations at the lead carbonate mine that was put in extended hibernation after the port of Esperance contamination controversy that began in 2007.
Operations at the Wiluna mine in central Western Australia were suspended almost three years ago in response to the dust problems at the port.
Major maintenance and re-commissioning work has been underway for two months ahead of the resumption of mining this month.
Magellan aims to produce about 60,000 tonnes of the product in 2010 and said it saw a smooth transition to shipping the new production from the mine.
It has about seven weeks of stockpiled ore and has shipped more than 20,000 wet tonnes of containerised lead through the port of Fremantle without major incident.
